Lighting the Way, Together
Small sparks,
when shared,
can light entire rooms.
Wicks backs community-led projects that put good technology in ordinary hands. No big promises. Just practical help turning a good idea into something the people who started it can keep running themselves.
What Wicks Does
Wicks is small and hands-on, with some hard-won skills and a little funding to put to work. We help local communities use new tools on their own terms.
We build with the people already doing the work, not just for them. We back local projects that might otherwise go unseen: a bit of funding, some mentoring, a few introductions. Then we hand over the keys.
New tools are showing up fast, and a lot of them are built to extract — to take attention, take data, take value out of a place. Wicks works the other way around. We get these tools to the people usually left until last, and we make sure what they build stays local.
Then we write down what we learned and give it away. No gatekeeping. Just passing the light.
What We Believe
The handful of things we won't compromise on.
Local First
Start close to home, here in Central Indiana. Grow when it feels right, not when someone tells you to.
Purpose Over Profit
We measure ourselves by what changes for people, not by revenue. The work matters more than the metrics.
Learning by Listening
The people closest to a problem understand it best. We listen first, then act.
Tech With Heart
Good technology makes people more capable. AI proposes; humans decide.
Privacy as Foundation
We treat your data like it's yours, because it is. We collect as little as we can, we don't track you, and you can take everything and leave whenever you want.
Why "Wicks"
A wick is a small thing. It burns quietly so something else can give off light. That's what we're going for: helping other people shine brighter, one project at a time.
The name is personal, too. It's about roots, effort, and the kind of quiet leadership that doesn't need the spotlight to matter.
A single spark can spread warmth far beyond where it started.
How We Help
Four ways we help. Each one does a different job.
Enablement
In-source the capability back to the people who should own it. Build it, hand over the keys, teach them to run it.
Advisory
Real expertise from people who've done the work, focused on your project. No invoice at the end.
Connections
Warm introductions, and mentorship that sticks around. The relationships are usually what make an idea grow.
Playbooks
We write down what actually worked and share it freely. No gatekeeping.
Philosophy
A few simple truths we operate on.
Meaning is built, not found.
It comes from effort and intention. Waiting around for it doesn't work.
We learn by listening.
The best ideas come from the people closest to the problem. Our job is to pay attention.
Agency is a design choice.
Every tool either widens what a person can do or quietly narrows it. Someone decides which, while they're building it. We decide on purpose.
A single spark can spread warmth.
Small actions, done with care, can reach far beyond where they started.
With capability comes responsibility.
The more you can do, the more you should ask who benefits. Use what you have to lift other people up.
Optimism is a strategy, not a feeling.
Scarcity makes people cautious. Abundance makes them move. We choose to move, eyes open.
